A student of the Krobo Nursing and Midwifery Training College has accused the school’s principal, Ellen Dwamena, of failing to listen to students’ concerns and making comments that discourage some learners.

Speaking under anonymity to the media, the student alleged that the principal does not value students’ concerns and often dismisses their complaints.

“She doesn’t take us for anything and takes us for granted. If students have a problem and we tell her, she will say nursing is not for the poor,” the student alleged.

She said the comments and attitude of the principal have affected students who enrolled in the institution with the hope of becoming professional nurses.

“We came to school because we wanted to become nurses, and we have seen her attitude. The whole school is aware of it,” she added.

The student further questioned the principal’s leadership style, saying, “She is a grown-up woman and I’m sure she can soon go on pension, but that does not mean she should treat students this way.”

Her comments follow a protest by students of the Krobo Nursing and Midwifery Training College in the Bono East Region, who are demanding the immediate removal of Mrs Dwamena over what they describe as poor leadership and deteriorating conditions on campus.

The students, who carried placards and chanted slogans during the demonstration, accused the principal of being autocratic and insensitive to their welfare.

They also alleged that some students had been demoted without being given access to their results or explanations for the decisions.

The protesters are appealing to the Ministry of Health and other relevant authorities to intervene and reinstate the college’s former principal, whom they credit with better management of the institution.

They said the current situation is affecting students’ welfare and academic performance and called for urgent action to address their concerns.
