It has truly been an Adonai (Ado9) year for Presbyterian Boys’ Secondary School (PRESEC-Legon) as the school has reclaimed the National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ) trophy to become nine-time champions.

PRESEC’s triumph in the grand finale was far from straightforward, with the eight-time champions suffering an early setback in the opening round that left them at the bottom of the standings.

However, the Legon-based school quickly recovered and gradually found its rhythm as the contest progressed.

PRESEC Finds Its Rhythm

By the end of the second round, PRESEC had picked up significant momentum and begun closing the gap on their competitors, Accra Academy and St Augustine’s College.

The decisive turning point came in the third round, when PRESEC became the only school to score in the Problem of the Day.

While both Accra Academy and St Augustine’s College failed to register a point in the challenge, PRESEC secured four points, giving them a crucial advantage heading into the decisive stages of the competition.

The True or False round proved equally important, with PRESEC extending their lead and entering the final riddles round with a comfortable advantage.

Two Riddles Seal Ninth Title

With the coveted trophy within reach, PRESEC needed to remain composed in the final riddles round.

The school answered two of the four riddles correctly, doing enough to secure victory and reclaim the NSMQ title.

The moment PRESEC delivered their final answer, the auditorium erupted into deafening jubilation as students, old students and supporters celebrated the return of the coveted trophy to Legon.

PRESEC Gets Revenge Over Augusco

The victory is particularly significant for PRESEC after their recent dominance was interrupted by St Augustine’s College in the last two editions.

PRESEC had faced Augusco in the 2024 final and suffered defeat, but the Legon giants have now turned the tables on their familiar rivals on the biggest stage.

With the latest triumph, PRESEC-Legon now have nine NSMQ titles, further cementing their status as the most successful school in the history of the competition.

The champions now head into the 2027 contest with the bragging rights firmly back in their hands.
