A Ghanaian citizen has reportedly been shot dead in South Africa as renewed anti-migrant protests continue to heighten concerns over the safety of foreign nationals living in the country.

Although the identity of the deceased has not yet been disclosed, reports indicate that he had lived in South Africa for nearly two decades before his death.

The victim was reportedly shot in his shop in Cape Town on Tuesday, June 30, 2026.

He is said to have left behind three children, with the eldest reportedly 10 years old.

The incident comes amid renewed anti-foreigner demonstrations in parts of South Africa, where protesters have been demanding stricter immigration enforcement and the removal of undocumented migrants.

The unrest has created fear among migrant communities, prompting security agencies to increase operations in affected areas.

In response to the situation, the Government of Ghana has intensified its voluntary repatriation programme for citizens who wish to return home.

According to available information, more than 900 Ghanaians have already been repatriated from South Africa, with additional evacuation flights expected next week to accommodate more citizens seeking to return.

The Ghana High Commission in South Africa has advised Ghanaians still residing in South Africa to remain vigilant, avoid areas where protests are taking place, and maintain regular contact with the mission for updates and emergency assistance.
