The Municipal Chief Executive for Effutu, Rev. Arthur Mensah, and the District Chief Executive for Gomoa Central, Hackman Aidoo, have appealed for calm following the violent disturbances at New Winneba in the Central Region.

The incident, which occurred on Tuesday, left three people dead and 19 others injured, including a police officer.

The violence reportedly involved a group of about 300 people from four Gomoa communities who allegedly attacked residents of New Winneba and the Effutu North District Police Command.

Speaking after visiting injured victims at the Winneba Trauma and Specialist Hospital, Rev. Arthur Mensah disclosed that some of the victims sustained gunshot wounds.

He assured the victims and their families that the Effutu Municipal Assembly would take responsibility for their medical expenses.

Rev. Mensah urged residents to remain calm and cooperate with the security agencies as efforts continue to restore peace in the area.

The Gomoa Central DCE, Hackman Aidoo, also appealed to residents to exercise restraint and avoid any form of retaliation.

He said measures were being taken to prevent reprisal attacks and contain the situation.

Security personnel have since been deployed to the affected communities to maintain law and order and prevent further escalation.

Authorities are urging residents on both sides to remain calm and allow the security agencies to investigate the incident and deal with anyone found responsible according to law.
