NADMO Urges Samreboi Flood Victims to Stay Away Until Fumigation Is Completed

The Wassa Amenfi Municipal Directorate of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) has advised residents displaced by the recent floods in Samreboi to refrain from returning to their homes until fumigation and safety assessment exercises have been completed.

According to the agency, although floodwaters have largely receded, many affected homes remain unsafe due to contamination risks and structural damage caused by the flooding.

Speaking to the media, the Deputy Municipal NADMO Director, Christopher Bevel, disclosed that about 100 buildings were completely destroyed, while an additional 20 buildings sustained partial damage.

He further revealed that nearly 1,900 residents have been affected by the disaster and remain displaced as authorities work to restore safe living conditions.

Mr. Bevel explained that fumigation is necessary to prevent possible outbreaks of diseases before residents are allowed to return to their homes.

He assured the public that NADMO is conducting continuous safety assessments to minimise health risks and ensure that affected residents can safely reoccupy their homes once conditions improve.

The flooding occurred after heavy rains caused the Samre and Tano rivers to overflow their banks, leading to widespread destruction of property and the displacement of hundreds of families in Samreboi and surrounding communities in the Western Region.
