The Christian Council of Ghana has expressed its condolences to the people of Uganda following a tragic road accident that claimed the lives of more than 20 pupils and a teacher from King David Junior School.

In a statement signed by its General Secretary, Rev. Dr Cyril G.K. Fayose, the Council said it received the news of the accident “with a heavy and grieving heart.”

The victims were returning to Kampala from an educational tour to Sipi Falls on Thursday, July 16, 2026, when the fatal crash occurred.

Nearly two weeks after the incident, the Council said it remained deeply saddened by the loss of the young lives.

“The Council deeply regrets the magnitude of this loss of children who left homes, set out with joy and laughter in their hearts, full of dreams of a bright future, but did not return home to the loving arms of parents and families to share what they had set out to learn on the trip,” the statement said.

It also sympathised with the bereaved families, teachers and the wider Ugandan community, describing the tragedy as one that would leave a lasting impact.

“We weep with the mothers and fathers whose arms now ache with emptiness; with siblings who have lost playmates; with teachers who looked forward to grooming the children as their own; a community that would never forget this excruciating pain, and a nation that gasps for breath at this painful moment,” the Council added.

The Christian Council assured the leadership and staff of King David Junior School, as well as the Government and people of Uganda, of Ghana’s solidarity during the difficult period.

“Ghana, as a sister nation bound by faith, humanity, and the shared soil of this continent, holds you in our prayers,” the statement said.

It prayed for God’s comfort for the grieving families and strength for all those affected by the tragedy, while commending medical personnel and first responders for their efforts.

“To the injured and traumatised, we pray for full and speedy recovery, and to the medical teams and first responders who laboured through the initial stages to prevent a more devastating death toll, we say God bless each and every one of you for reaching out,” the Council stated.

The Council also called on churches in Ghana and across Africa to continue praying for Uganda and to provide both spiritual and material support to the bereaved families and affected communities.

Quoting Matthew 5:4, it concluded: “Blessed are those who mourn for they shall be comforted,” adding, “May the peace of Christ, which passes all understanding, cover the nation of Uganda at this time.”
